Engines 101: The Good, The Bad and The Ugly!
Who in our business needs to understand marine engines? Everyone from the Agent, to the Underwriter, Claims Adjuster, Carrier Product Department, Surveyor, and Admiralty Attorney – just to name a few! Most Claims Adjusters will attest that many of the claims they handle are attributable to engine failure in one form or another. In order to perform our jobs better we need to know and understand the past, present and future of marine engines, i.e. The Good, The Bad and The Ugly! This topic will also include some of the common ways that a Marine insurance policy may respond to claims involving engine failure.
Presenters: Ron Alcus of Alcus Marine Technical Services, Inc. and Fred Pietropola of Seaworthy Insurance Company.

Vessel fires create some of the costliest losses for the marine industry, whether it be property loss, severe bodily injury and death. If there are established methods to reduce the exposure, are we adopting them? If not, why? John McDevitt of Marine Safety & Fire Protection presentation will tackle this issue.
